VISITORS Staines confirmed their second-place finish that ensures they will enjoy home advantage throughout the play-offs with his 1-0 success.

For Billericay, watched by a closing day crowd of 532, this will be remembered as a campaign in which they reached the first round proper of the FA Cup and played their first ever competitive game with Football League opposition, narrowly losing to League One champions Swansea City.

The new management team of Jason Broom and Grant Gordon, promoted from within to try and boost the league standing after the FA Cup demise and Matt Jones's departure, seemed, for a long time, to be on the right track.

But a disappointing end to a season that has seen Matt Game and Joe Flack out of action for much of the campaign, joined by skipper Jamie Dormer late on, finally ended in disappointment with wins in only three of their last 13 games.

In fact the biggest cheer of this end of season affair arrived in the closing stages when popular midfielder Game came on as a substitute, his first action since breaking a leg in the second match.

Teenage striker Billy Brick-nell, who goes to League One Yeovil this week for a reserve match and training, drew an early save from visiting keeper James Courtnage after running onto a Leon Hunter pass.

But the hosts were soon forced on the back foot by Staines, who took a 12th minute lead through Matt Flitter's headed goal.

Ronnie Worster in the home goal saved from Leigh Mason before the break and Paul Shave came to the rescue when Marc Charles-Smith threatened danger in the second-half.

Elliott Onochie had an effort cleared off the line by Dave McSweeney, but Billericay twice went close through Brick-nell.

Staines were awarded a late penalty, but Mark Nwokeji blasted the spot-kick over as the curtain came down on Billericay's season.

Staines, of course, still have much to fight for with tomorrow's clash with Ramsgate being followed by a play-off final against AFC Wimbledon or AFC Hornchurch next Saturday.
