IT's been a fabulous year for the netball girls of Southend High School.
The years nine and under-16 teams both won the Southend Schools' Borough tournament, adding to the success of the year seven and eight teams who won their events in the previous week.
The year nine team of Rosie Davies, Jessica Abrahams, Francesca Humfrey, Maddie Parker, Poppy Lee, Shelley Wilson and Jessica Colbear won all the matches in their round-robin competition.
The under-16 squad of Tess Mocherie, Amy Fry, Esther Tele, Alex Dean, Anastasia Bouch, Alice Jeffery, Emma Herron, Georgia Gilling and Ellie Kent won all their section matches.
They beat St Bernard's in the semi-final and won 11-0 in the final against Westcliff High School For Girls.
The year seven netball squad have had a particularly successful first season.
Having lost only one match all year to Brentwood Public School early in September, they met them again in the final of the age group Essex Cup at Basildon's Gloucester Park.
The match was played in excellent spirit and was of an amazing standard for such young netballers.
At full time the score was 20-20 and so the match went to extra-time.
After a nail-biting 10 minutes Southend were the eventual winners by 26 goals to 24.
The squad was: Alice Casey (capt), Phoebe Kent, Katie Willis, Blaise Copeland, Millie Knowles, Holly Baker, Poppy Lake, Amber Franklin, Joella Yeap and Georgia Lamkin.
So all in all a very successful season for the netball teams at Southend High for Girls as they won all four Borough titles and the year seven Essex Cup for the first time.
