THE outstanding individual performance as in the Leslie F. Wood Championship first round came from Belfairs' Ian Mudie.

Mudie recorded a hole-in-one on the 10th hole as he and partner Luke Alden triumphed in the morning foursomes during their 8.5-6.5 win at home to Blakes Wood.

The Leslie Wood, the county's junior team championship, is a tough one for Belfairs as it's played off scratch.

It's open to eight handicappers and above, while Belfairs' lowest handicapper eligible plays off 10 and the whole team is made up of golfers with 10-13 allowances.

The Belfairs team was skippered by non-playing club vice-captain Peter Mahoney and also included Jon Howley, Alan Gribbon, Trevor Innard, Nigel Warder, Hugh Brown, Dave Smith, Kevin Buck and Kevin Gough.

Belfairs now travel to Colne Valley in round two on May 18.

BOYCE Hill won 8.5-6.5 at Harwich and Dovercourt to earn a trip to Abridge.

Star man was Tom Ward, who won in both singles and foursomes.

Ward partnered Charlie Goodwin to a 5 and 4 foursomes win while Dave Smith and Steve Neale triumphed 1 up.

Simon Haggett and Chris Jarman halved their match to make it 2.5 apiece at lunchtime.

Smith won 4 and 3 in the singles against much-fancied Dale Gosling, but four straight Boyce losses seemed to have handed the initiative to Harwich, who now led by three with five matches left.
