ANDY Weymouth is hoping to be fighting fit when he races at his home Brands Hatch track.

Weymouth injured both his feet in a cancelled meeting at the Kent circuit earlier last month, but overcame the knocks to gain a second place in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup event held at Thruxton.

And with the Brands meeting rescheduled for May 10 and 11 the Brentwood-based racer, who hails from Thurrock, is hoping to be fully fit.

"I am not yet 100 per cent fit as my heels are still sore and the hospital thinks I may have a fracture," said Weymouth, who is also racing in the Supersport Cup meeting at Oulton Park this weekend.

"And rescheduling the Brands round certainly did me a favour as it will give me even more time to recover from my injury and make a better showing at my home track."

Despite the injuries he picked up at Brands in April, Weymouth overcame suspension problems on his 2008 Yamaha R6 bike and poor weather at Thruxton.

Variable cold and wet conditions hindered 31-year-old Weymouth's practice and qualifying sessions at the Hampshire track and he qualified in 30th place, But despite starting on the eighth row of the grid, Weymouth worked his way up the field before overtaking his Linxcel-Seton Tuning teammate Pete Spalding to finish in 20th place in 25:23.965 at an average speed of 100.17mph.

That put Weymouth on the podium in second place and gained him 20 championship points.

The cup winner was Craig Fitzpatrick on the BLDS Yamaha with 25 points and in third spot was Alistair Fagan on the JHS Racing Triumph with 16 points.

"Trying to get into some sort of rhythm over the weekend with the changing conditions was difficult, but thankfully for race day it brightened up and after a few laps I regained my confidence," added Weymouth.

"Once I was settled I was able to push a bit harder and make up some places, but I know I can improve on this result so there is more to come. Overall I am very happy with the result and am looking forward to the next round at Oulton Park on May 5."
