BENFLEET Running Club's Debbie Gibbins has finally achieved her goal of a sub 3hrs 30mins. marathon.
She did it in style by recording a time of 3:18.8 at the Blackpool Marathon last Sunday. This was a personal best by almost 14 minutes.
Gibbins was seventh lady overall and took first prize in the over 45 vets category.
The course is fast and flat and weather conditions were perfect: light rain, cool and very light winds.
"Breaking 3hrs 30mins has been my goal for the last four years," said Gibbins.
"I have run 3.32 twice, but have never managed to break through that 3.30 barrier. When I finally did I smashed through it!
"I really owe a debt of gratitude to my coach Ian Pike for getting me in shape for this marathon and for always believing in my ability.
"I'd also like to thank Benfleet Running Club for their support and good wishes. Benfleet is a club second to none. I am delighted to have done Benfleet proud at Blackpool."
Gibbins's time is just outside the London Marathon championship mark of 3:15 which entitles female athletes to run with the elite ladies.
But it is a time she is absolutely delighted with.
