SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher feels matchwinner Jake Hyde is starting to get sharper at the Shrimpers.
Hyde headed home the only goal of the game against Yeovil Town at Roots Hall on Saturday.
And Maher was happy to see the on loan Wrexham forward open his account for the season.
“I’m pleased for Jake and he took it well,” said Maher.
“Bridgey (Jack Bridge) has got an assist and we wanted him on the ball one v one in wide areas.
“A lot of our deliveries this year have hit the first man too often.
“But we just said deliver between the posts if we can because we know Jake has good movement and Marcus (Dackers) is a threat too.
“We’re delighted for Hydey and he needed that.
“He’s getting fitter and sharper and when that happens those ones start to go in.”
