ON LOAN Southend United striker Jake Hyde believes artificial pitches should not be allowed in the National League.

The Shrimpers head to Maidstone United, who have a 3G pitch, on Tuesday night.

And Hyde is not a fan of the surface.

“Everyone is a little bit different with their views,” said Hyde.

“I can’t stand them and I don’t think they should be allowed but they are.

“It will provide a different type of challenge for us but nothing we can’t handle and I’m sure we will put out the most capable team.”

Hyde netted twice in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Scunthorpe United to take his tally to four goals in five games.

But he now feels switching from playing on a grass pitch to an artificial surface will make a big difference.

“They don’t sit right and it’s harsh on the body too,” said Hyde.

“The game is played differently and the ball bounces differently too.

“It’s hard to judge and you don’t understand the toll it takes compared to grass on your body, it’s horrendous.

“I always think that 4G will always find out any niggles or strains you’ve got.

“Any issues you’ve got it maximises that and finds them out.

“Some people like it and some people don’t but I’m definitely one who doesn’t.”
