SOUTHEND United’s Shaun Hobson is keeping his feet firmly on the ground – despite the Shrimpers’ fine defensive record so far this season.
Blues have conceded just 11 goals in 15 games this season, the fewest in the National League.
But Hobson does not read too much into the statistics and insists his sights will only ever be fixed on his side’s next game.
“You can’t get caught up in these things,” said the centre-back.
“I just take it game by game and do my job.
“I don’t think too much about anything else.
“It’s not a back five thing either, I think the whole team have been doing well.”
Blues’ latest clean sheet came in Tuesday’s 3-0 win at Maidstone United.
And Hobson was happy to pick up another three points.
“It was a good game, we played well and we got the job done,” said the 24-year-old.
“We started off a bit shaky in the first five minutes but we grew into the game and got the win.”
The Shrimpers now sit eighth in the table heading into this weekend’s match at York City.
And Hobson cannot wait to get back in action.
“It’s another game and we’re looking forward to it,” said Hobson.
“It’s a club like ours.
“It’s a previous league club that has had their troubles, just like us and it will be a good game.”
Hobson has now made 108 appearances for Blues since signing in 2020 and is enjoying being at Roots Hall more than ever.
“This is the best it’s been since I’ve been here,” said Hobson.
“There has been a big change, on the team side of things, ever since the manager and his staff came in.”
Those improvements have taken Blues up to eighth in the National League table and continued Hobson’s love for the game.
“If I’m not playing football then I’m watching it,” said the defender.
“That’s all I do or I’ll have a nap.
“But I’m always watching football to be honest, there’s no breaks.
“I’m a Manchester United fan and we’re back on the rise at the moment so I can’t complain.”
