SOUTHEND United midfielder Cav Miley wants to see the Shrimpers switched on at York City on Saturday.
Miley will again be in the centre of the park as eighth placed Blues bid to secure a third win in succession.
But, prior to stepping up his footballing career, Miley had been working as an electrician.
And Miley - who joined Southend from Eastleigh in the summer - remains proud of the ‘positive’ way things have unfolded since first coming over to play in England back in 2017.
“Before Eastleigh I was in Jersey working as a electrician,” said Miley.
“I played for my side over there, St Pauls.
“I played for Jersey in a few games too and then got the opportunity to come over to Eastleigh for a three month period.
“I thought I’d give that a go and I’ve been here ever since.
“I wouldn’t change any of it though, it was brilliant.
“The way it all came about was positive.
“I had to ask my boss for the time off and I wouldn’t have gone if he said no but it’s been great.
“I certainly enjoy being at Southend more than being an electrician too.”
Miley has started every game for the Shrimpers this season.
And he has enjoyed the added responsibility of skippering the side in recent weeks.
“It’s good but to be honest nothing has really changed,” said Miley.
“I just try and play my game and play the best I can.
“Ralphy (Nathan Ralph) and JD (Jason Demetriou) are there and it’s been good.
“I’m just really worried about the results really but it’s been a positive thing.”
Blues saw off Maidstone United 3-0 on Tuesday night having previously beaten Scunthorpe by the same score-line on Saturday.
And Miley is now setting his sights on securing more points this weekend.
“There’s a buzz around the place after two good results, home and away but we need to keep it up,” said Miley.
“It’s York on Saturday and hopefully we can back up the two wins and keep the unbeaten run going.”
Blues have now not been beaten in seven National League games.
But Miley knows ninth placed York - who are level on points with the Shrimpers will be tough to beat.
“Any away game in this league is a difficult game,” said the 27-year-old.
“They’re doing alright and we’ll do our preparation on them before we get up there.
“We want to make it another positive day and a positive result.”
