CALLUM Powell says in-form Southend United fear nobody in the National League.

The Shrimpers have risen to sixth in the standings after going nine league games without defeat.

And Powell feels confidence is sky high among Kevin Maher’s squad.

“At the moment we feel like we don’t fear anybody,” said Powell.

“The team is playing well, we’re coherent, together, well drilled and look dangerous when we attack.

“We don’t look like conceding when we’re defending so at the moment it’s going to plan but we can’t rest on our laurels.

“We have to keep on turning into the performances.”

Blues are without a game this weekend but return to action against table-topping Notts County at Roots Hall on Tuesday.

And Powell cannot wait to take on the Magpies.

“If there’s any time to play the league leaders it would be now and what a place to do it as well at home in front of our fans with the game on BT Sport too,” said Powell.

“We’ve got nothing to fear and if anything they will be fearing us.

“It will be a really good game.”

The Shrimpers won 3-0 at Barnet last time out to make it four league victories in a row.

And Powell was pleased to contribute by scoring his sixth goal of the season having previously been frustrated not to have taken a previous opportunity.

“I was a bit disappointed I didn’t score the one in the first half but to be fair I think he’s made a good save,” said Powell.

“I’ve reacted well with the chance in the second half and I’ve managed to get another goal.

“Whoever got that next goal at 1-0 was important.

“The gaffer said that at half-time too and thankfully it fell for me and I got a little finish under the keeper.”

And Powell again celebrated by holding his hands close to his ears.

“I did it once because I’ve read some bad noise and it’s become a bit of a habit now,” said Powell.

“The lads were laughing at Maidstone as I did about four celebrations in five seconds but I just get so excited I don’t really know what I’m doing to be honest!”

Powell again partnered Chris Wreh in attack and the duo have a combined total of five goals and three assists in their six games together.

And Powell is enjoying being reunited with Wreh who he also played alongside at a young age while with Northampton Town.

“If you look at the games we’ve played together, in every game one of us has scored or assisted and we have a good mix between us,” said Powell.

“We’ve got power, strength, speed and have good combination play.

“I enjoy playing with him and I know his game inside out because I’ve played with him for so long and I’ve known him for ages.

“Hopefully we can keep on banging in the goals and help the team move forward.”
