SOUTHEND United’s youth team are ‘boycotting’ training and matches after not being paid for October.

Echosport can confirm the Shrimpers youngsters and coaches held talks following Saturday’s defeat at Luton Town.

And it was decided action needed to be taken amid ongoing financial uncertainty for the National League club.

One frustrated parent, who did not want to be named, said: “The boys are 100 per cent boycotting training and matches until they get paid.

“That will include next week’s FA Youth Cup game if it comes to it.

“It’s disgusting how they have been treated.”

The club confirmed they were aware of the situation but denied rumours the under 18s had gone on strike.

It is understood some players are no longer able to afford to travel in to Boots & Laces to train and, in a show of solidarity, it was decided all members of the squad would continue their training and education from home.

Members of Blues’ office staff are still also waiting to be paid for October while a winding up petition, issued by HMRC, was adjourned last week.

The Shrimpers remain in a transfer embargo.
