SOUTHEND United striker Chris Wreh will risk the wrath of his family by supporting England in their World Cup clash against USA on Friday.
Wreh’s father Christopher is cousins with the legendary former PSG and AC Milan striker George Weah whose son Timothy is expected to start against the Three Lions.
But Wreh is still keen to see England secure their second win in succession in Qatar.
“My dad’s cousin is Timothy’s dad so is he part of the family,” said Wreh.
“I Facetime my dad and Uncle George but I’m not always in close contact with them otherwise.
“Whenever my dad is with them we do talk and I obviously want him to do well.
“But I’ll be cheering for England.”
Wreh joined Blues after impressing while on trial in the summer.
And he is proud to have his dad – former Arsenal striker Christopher and the legendary Weah in his corner – even if he does not like to talk about it!
“It’s good for the family and it’s good to know I have people in my family who have achieved big things,” said Wreh.
“I’m quite quiet about it though and only mention it if someone asks.
“It’s the same with my dad, I wouldn’t mention him but we have the same name so it’s hard.
“It does get mentioned quite a lot but I’m used to it now.”
Wreh is still looking to make a name for himself and will be part of the Shrimpers squad for Saturday’s match at Aldershot.
But he will get ready for the game by watching England’s match tomorrow.
And the striker is expecting an entertaining encounter.
“I think it will be a good game,” said Wreh.
“They’re two of the youngest teams in the tournament and it will be quite end to end I think .
“It will be exciting and I can’t see it being 0-0.”
England beat Iran 6-2 in their opening fixture while USA drew 1-1 against Wales, with Weah on target.
