BILLERICAY Town’ women’s side will be ‘away at home’ when they take on their development team in an unusual County Cup quarter-final clash at New Lodge on Sunday.

Town’s first team - who are fifth in FAWNL Southern Premier - will be in the away dressing room for the contest.

But boss James Gibson is looking forward to a unique contest.

“It’s quite simple, we’re away at home and that’s the best way of looking at it,” said Gibson.

“It will be good though because it will cut through some of the pre-match routines we have which is probably healthy every now and then.

“We will be in the away dressing room and will warm up on the other side of the pitch.

“We’ll be wearing the away kit too but it will be a chance to see more of our young players playing too.

“We can enjoy it and I’m excited.”

Gibson has enjoyed plenty of the games since being appointed manager in October.

And he has worked hard to ensure progress continues to be made.

“Since I’ve come into the club what we’ve done from game to game has been connected,” said Gibson.

“In the first game I had against Plymouth you can see parts of what we did against Crawley at the weekend too and the players have been fantastic about that.

“We spoke with the players and the staff and had a look at what we wanted our identity to be.

“It needed to fit with the club’s philosophy but also needed to give us a chance of short-term success and also long-term success as well.

“Hopefully we’re on the right track with that and we feel like we are.”

Billericay have won eight of their nine games with Gibson in charge.

And the former Watford and Luton coach already feels right at home at New Lodge.

“I like it and it’s a club that gives good feelings,” said Gibson.

“Even when I visited before I joined I found it a place that gives out good vibes.

“There are so many people around the club that make that happen in terms of staff, the owners, the people who come and watch and we actually play some really decent football.

“The people watching have enjoyed that and hopefully we can get more and more down to watch.

“The whole club is a family club but it’s also an aspirational club so it’s exciting to be here.”

Gibson combines his role at Billericay with leading the women’s academy at the University Campus of Football Business at Wembley.

But he has yet to pay close attention to the league table.

“Someone sent me the table the other night and I hadn’t looked at it before,” said Gibson.

“We’ve had more cup games than league games and I know the team had a slow start before I joined but it kind of simplified things.

“We focused on ourselves and what we can affect.

“We can’t affect what anyone does but we can affect what we do so I haven’t really looked at the table.

“I’m aware teams have played different amounts of games and we’re about halfway through the season. It’s normally probably an interesting time to look at the table but because some teams have had postponements I’m not sure how much I would learn from looking at the table.”
