SO, Ron Martin has obtained a further time extension to pay HMRC, good for him but in my opinion not good for Southend United Football Club.
Whilst I acknowledge that Mr Martin has bailed out the club over the years, it feels as though the club has been brought to its knees.
Monies owed to HMRC are “large”, but we really shouldn’t have been in this situation at all if there had been cash reserves.
We cannot purchase players, so have to depend on the current squad, so little chance of bringing better players to the club, and little chance of getting back into the league proper.
Wages continue to be an issue, being paid late, monies outstanding to third parties etc.
And where is this so called bridging finance coming from, if indeed it does materialise?
This is purely a stop gap measure, no Mr Martin, it appears obvious you do not have the cash reserves.
We all know being the owner of any club in the lower divisions you do not expect to make a profit, you do it because your heart and soul is in the club.
You, Mr Martin, you treat Southend United Football Club as another business enterprise, and not very well run at that.
So, Mr Martin, why not do the honourable thing and put the club up for sale and let someone run it who has deep pockets and has the love of the club.
Over to you.
