KEVIN Maher praised Blondy Nna Noukeu’s character after the goalkeeper secured a clean sheet in Southend United’s 2-0 win against York City.
Nna Noukeu, who is on loan from Blues from Stoke City, was at fault for two goals in his previous showing against Eastleigh.
And Maher was pleased with how the 21-year-old bounced back in his first appearance since extending his loan spell for a further month.
“Blondy’s come under a bit of criticism but fair play to him for wanting to stay,” said Maher.
“He’s shown good character wanting to go out there again and there’s obviously nerves because he’s a young keeper.
“He’s a young man who has been thrust into an environment which is probably not exactly what you would want a young keeper coming in to.
“He’s made a mistake we know that but he’s got another clean sheet.
“He’s had one at Bromley, one against Solihull and another here and I’m delighted for because he’s shown real character.
“There were a couple of nervous moments but he’s come through it and long term for his career it will only benefit for here.”
