SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has revealed the club are in talks with HMRC in a bid to get the club’s transfer embargo lifted.
Blues have been unable to add to their squad since September due to the restrictions in place.
But, speaking at a press conference at Roots Hall this afternoon, Martin stressed the Shrimpers doing what they could to remove the transfer ban before next week's deadline day.
“Tom Lawrence is in touch with HMRC,” said Martin.
“We’re trying to negotiate an arrangement with them.
“Will we make it? I don’t know but we’re trying.”
And, when asked if HMRC were the reason for the embargo, Martin replied: "Primarily, yes."
Sides in the National League have until 5pm on Thursday March 23 to add to their squad.
