JACK Bridge felt he scored his most pressurised penalty of the season to help the Shrimpers secure victory against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Bridge netted both of Blues’ goals from the spot in their 2-0 win at Roots Hall.

And Bridge admitted the first of his penalties was the most important he has taken this term.

“The pressure on the penalty was the biggest I've had this season,” who has now netted six of the seven penalties this season.

“I missed my last one which was gutting for me and I take responsibility for that.

“But it was a pressure one today and there was a lot going on before I took it too.

“That's part and parcel of it all and thankfully it's ended up in the back of the net.”

Bridge also won the penalty after being brought down in the box by Dagenham defender Josh Hare.

And Bridge admitted the manner of the challenge led to him going to ground.

“I like to get myself in those areas where defenders leave legs out,” said Bridge.

“He's put his leg out and I've gone down and the ref has given it.”

Dagenham boss Ben Strevens was incensed at Bridge at the final whistle but there could be no complaints about the second penalty which the Shrimpers wing-back again confidently fired home after Henry Sandat had been fouled by Harry Phipps.

“I've never had to take two penalties in a game before so that was a new one,” said Bridge.

“There was less pressure on it because we were already 1-0 up but it was great to see that one go in too.”

Blues’ victory saw them move to within three points of the play-offs.

And Bridge felt it was a huge win for Kevin Maher’s side.

“It's massive,” said the 27-year-old.

“We keep winning our games and then we'll see what happens elsewhere.

“Come the end of the season hopefully we'll be in the play-offs.

“We've kept ourselves in a position where we can still do it.

“We go into two away games next week now looking to win them both.

“But we don't focus on anyone else's games, we focus on ourselves.”

Blues head to Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night.

And Bridge will be heading into the clash full of confidence .

“Only last week I was trying to get to 10 goals and now I'm on 12 so I'm over the moon with that,” he added.
