GREENSTED Primary School are celebrating winning the District Football Championships and the District Netball Cup in the same season.
The Greensted netball team were crowned champions after finishing top of their qualifying group which meant they proceeded to finals day.
There, Greensted steamed through the group stages with wins against Northlands, Lee Chapel, Noak Bridge, Whitmore Way and Lincewood.
That meant they qualified for the ‘Super Threes’ – a three-way knockout against Lincewood Primary and Great Berry to be crowned champions of Basildon.
Greensted went on to win by one goal and, in doing so, became the best team in Basildon in a competition which saw more than 50 schools take part.
Not to be outdone, the Greensted football team qualified from their Basildon Regional Group after wins against Whitmore Way, Bardfield, Kingswood, Fairhouse and Eversley.
In the semi-final, Greensted took on the previously undefeated Lee Chapel Primary and, despite being 2-0 down at half time, produced a remarkable comeback to win 3-2.
The final, played at the Everlsey Centre, saw Greensted defeat Northlands Primary 3-2 in front of over 500 supporters.
Outgoing Headteacher Ian Hampshire said: "The whole school has celebrated this prestigious double.
"It is the result of the hard work of the whole Greensted sports department and of course the children who have put in countless hours of practice before, during and after school in all weathers.
"Every one of these players has a very bright future ahead of them in their respective games and we wish them the best of luck in the future."
