SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher is determined to get the best out of Dan Mooney this season.
The attacking midfielder came off the bench to score the Shrimpers third goal in their emphatic 4-0 win against Oldham Athletic.
And Maher is keen to ensure Mooney keeps getting in the right areas to hurt the opposition.
“I know people talk about formations and things like that but Moons is a good player anywhere on the pitch,” said Maher.
“It was a hell of a finish and what we’ve got to do is get him the ball in the right areas.
“That’s up to me as well to get the best out of him.
“He’s a very good footballer and he can make the difference in the final third.
“We probably didn’t score enough goals last year and it’s up to us to get the best out of him.”
Mooney scored twice in 31 games for Blues last season, with 17 of those appearances coming off the bench.
