SOUTHEND United supporters held another protest against the club’s controversial chairman Ron Martin this morning.

Around 100 fans fearing for the club’s future gathered outside Martin’s house in Benfleet waving banners and chanting for him to leave.

And among them was lifelong supporter Tony Bridge.

“I’ve been going since 1967 and I never thought I’d see us in the situation we’re in now,” said Bridge, 66.

“Quite honestly I just don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel either.

“If by a miracle we do get a buyer by October 4 I still fear that with the injuries and suspensions we have we’ll by so far adrift.

“It’s a very sad situation.

“It’s heartbreaking and we all know the reasons why it’s happened but there’s no point going into why because it’s been spoken about thousands of times.”

The Shrimpers sit bottom of the National League standings after being docked 10 points for financial irregularities.

And Bridge was keen to make his feelings known.

“People say what’s the point because it won’t change anything but I think you’ve got to if you feel deeply enough about the club,” said Bridge.

“I know it won’t change what he wants to do but we need to say how we all feel.”

Fans chanted throughout the morning and stopped traffic at times by protesting in the road.
