GEORGE Taylor is in talks to join the consortium trying to buy Southend United, Echosport understands.

George, who is the son of former MP Sir Teddy Taylor, is a director at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers.

But the Hong-Kong based investor could now also have a part to play with Blues.

Echosport revealed last month how David Kreyling, Tom Arnold, Jason Brown, John Watson and Gary Lockett had teamed up with Justin Rees in a bid to buy Blues from chairman Ron Martin.

And Taylor could now come in to invest alongside them.

Taylor’s links to the area are well known due to his father who was a member of Parliament for Southend East for 25 years and regularly attended matches at Roots Hall before his death at the age of 80 in 2017.

Blues have struggled badly in recent seasons and narrowly avoided being wound up in August following a winding up petition from HMRC.

The delay in payment also led to a 10 point deduction and has kept the Shrimpers under a transfer embargo since September 2022.

Amid the ongoing financial uncertainty, Blues chairman Ron Martin put the club up for sale back in March and agreed terms with the consortium, led by Rees, at the start of October.

Due diligence is still being conducted but Rees remains confident the deal will be completed by the end of November.
