DARREN Manning looks set to be named Grays Athletic manager after opting to leave Basildon United.

Manning has guided the Bees to third place in the Isthmian North standings this season.

But the club confirmed this morning that Manning, who has been in charge since October 2022, has accepted an offer from elsewhere.

A club statement confirmed: “The club’s committee regret to announce that yesterday we received an approach in respect of first team manager Darren Manning.

“The club granted permission for Darren to speak with the approaching club and he has decided to take up the opportunity at a club which is dear to his heart.

“Whilst the club’s committee are incredibly saddened to be losing Darren’s services, they would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Daren for all of his efforts during his time with the club.

“Darren leaves the club in a very healthy position and will always be welcome back at the Hive.”

However, Manning will still be in charge of the Bees for tonight’s Essex Senior Cup clash against Dagenham & Redbridge at the Hive.

The statement added: “Darren will lead the team out tonight against Dagenham & Redbridge in the third round of the BBC Essex Senior Cup in what will be an opportunity for officials and fans alike to show our thanks in his last game in charge of the Bees.

"The search for Darren’s replacement is underway and an announcement will be made in due course."

Grays are currently second from bottom in Isthmian North and opted to part company with boss Mark Stimson at the start of the week.
