WES Fonguck insists Southend United are no longer shocked by anything thrown in their direction.
Blues battled hard in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Bromley despite having no fit strikers and only one substitute.
But Fonguck believes the Shrimpers are more than capable of overcoming any challenges coming their way.
“At this point we’re used to it and it is what it is,” said the midfielder.
“We’ve just got to get on with it but everyone with eyes can see our situation and just how tough it is.
“We’re losing 2-1 and we can’t change anything.
“Other teams can maybe bring on a forward but we can’t do that.”
Blues were forced into their only possible change when goalkeeper David Martin went off after injuring his ribs.
And that led to right wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss going goal.
“Our one sub was used when Dave Martin was injured but then you know in the back of your head there are no more subs so you have to go until the end,” said Fonguck.
“Anyone watching can see what we’re going through and how tough it is. “Everyone knows it shouldn’t be the case too but we have to get on with it.”
The Shrimpers certainly fought hard against Bromley and Fonguck felt Kevin Maher’s side had the better of the game “The game had a bit of everything really but I felt we were on top of things throughout the game to be honest,” said Fonguck.
“They scored at the end of the half but at half-time we said we wanted to keep on doing the same things in the second half.
“Mistakes happen and it gave them a second goal “We got one back but unfortunately couldn’t get the second.”
The Shrimpers pushed hard for an equaliser, despite having Scott-Morriss in goal.
And Fonguck was impressed by how the defender performed “He did better than I thought he would to be fair, other than his first goal kick,” said Fonguck.
“It’s what we had to do and big him up for stepping up and doing that because it’s not easy.
“Brooklyn did well coming up front too and it’s just the situation we’re in.”
And Fonguck was also pleased to play his part having now recovered from a slight hamstring issue.
“I felt good,” said Fonguck.
“Luckily I wasn’t out for too long but it’s obviously nice to get back out there.
Hopefully I can get a run of games now.
“I’ll get my head down and keep working hard for the games we have coming up.”
