SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher says top scorer Harry Cardwell is still "a bit away" from returning to action.
The Shrimpers striker has not played since FA Trophy clash against Hampton & Richmond towards the start of the month.
And Cardwell is not yet ready to return from a knee injury.
"He's still a bit away," said Maher.
"He's going to need a injection at the start of the new year and that will keep him out for a little while."
Cardwell has scored 12 goals in 23 games for Blues so far this season.
