BARNET boss Dean Brennan criticised Southend United wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss following his side’s 2-0 win at Roots Hall.
Scott-Morriss clashed with Idris Kanu just before the break on Boxing Day with the Bees wing-back shown a yellow card for an aerial challenge just moments after he felt he was stamped on by the Blues defender.
And Brennan accused Scott-Morriss of trying to get Kanu sent off.
“We heard there was a stamp on Idris in the game and he’s reacted off the back of that and the lad’s poor,” Brennan told the club's YouTube channel.
“I don’t like diving.
“He’s rolling around like he’s elbowed him and he hasn’t elbowed him at all.
“We’ve got the live feed from TNT we’re watching ourselves and it’s frustrating.
“I hate diving.
“It’s the worst most, disgusting thing in the game.
“Scott-Morriss is a really good player to be fair to him and he’s better than that.
“I don’t really want to comment on their players but I thought it was poor trying to get Idris sent off.
“In the end I have to take him off at half-time.”
Kanu was replaced by ex Shrimpers defender Ben Coker at the break and helped the visitors secure all three points, much to the delight of Brennan.
“It was a great result and a very gritty performance,” said Brennan.
“The news they’ve had here in the last few days has obviously given them a real boost and we knew it would be a hotbed today.
“To be fair, our lads stood up when it mattered and our goalie made some good saves at crucial times.
“We cleared balls off the line and at half-time we spoke about being more direct rather than playing out from the back.
“They were pressing us and Kev’s (Maher) teams work extremely hard so it was a very tough afternoon but it’s a fantastic result.”
The victory kept Barnet third in the National League standings ahead of Saturday’s rematch with Blues at the Hive.
But Brennan is expecting a stern test against the Shrimpers.
“It will be another huge game for us,” said the former Billericay Town boss.
“Kev is a top manager.
“We want to get our fans right behind us and we need to fill our stadium.
“We play good football we’re good on the eye and we have a bit of character about us.”
Barnet go into the game looking for a third win in succession.
