SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher said Cav Miley’s return from injury handed the Shrimpers a “massive lift” on Saturday.
Miley - who had been out of action with a thigh problem since early October - played the final 18 minutes of Blues’ 3-0 win against Halifax Town at Roots Hall.
And Maher is delighted to have Miley back in action.
“Having Cav come on was a massive lift for everyone,” said Maher.
“He was our player of the year last year and he’s an unbelievable professional.
“He’s a brilliant footballer and to have him come on and steady things was great.
“He’s so good at picking the ball up and taking it into space.
“He’s experienced as well now so it was brilliant to have him on the pitch.
“Hopefully he’ll get more minutes now and we can build him up because he’s been a big loss.”
Miley replaced James Morton in the centre of the park.
And Maher was impressed with Morton’s home debut.
“He did ever so well and you can see the quality he’s got on the ball,” said Maher.
“He’ll keep things simple but he plays on the half turn and he’s always on the swivel.
“He’ll get better the more he plays for us and it’s an area of the pitch we’re strong in now.”
