CHRIS Taylor enjoyed a memorable first match in charge of Basildon United, beating Witham 4-0 at the TLM Environmental Stadium.

Clyde Semazzi put the Bees in front after just 14 minutes before Samir Ali doubled the home side’s advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Callum Fitzer made it 3-0 with a fantastic free-kick five minutes into the second half before Ali completed the scoring in the 73rd minute to leave Taylor delighted at the final whistle.

“We’re really pleased,” Taylor told the club's Twitter account.

“What we did in training on Tuesday and Thursday all came together and the boys worked their socks off from minute one to minute 96.

“I couldn’t have asked much more from them to be honest.”

Taylor’s win came against his former side and saw Basildon work their way up to seventh in the Isthmian North standings, two positions and five points below the play-off places.

But Taylor will not be looking too far ahead.

“We’ll keep doing what we do and climb the mountain,” said Taylor.

“We know it’s not a sprint it’s a marathon so we’ll keep on plugging away and see where it takes us.”

The Bees head to 13th-placed Wroxham this weekend.

And Taylor – who replaced Ajay Ashanike in charge – is expecting another stern test.

“It’s a tough away game for us next,” said Taylor.

“But we’ll be prepared and we’ll go there putting in as much as we can.”

Wroxham drew 1-1 with Grays Athletic at the weekend.
