OLLIE Kensdale insists there is no need for Southend United to panic following their back to back defeats.

The Shrimpers suffered a 1-0 loss to Gateshead at Roots Hall on Saturday having been beaten 3-0 at table-topping Chesterfield seven days previously.

But Kensdale is not concerned and remains confident Blues can work their way back up the National League table.

“There’s loads still to play for and if we can get to the points tally we still think we can then we’ll make the play-offs and no-one will want to play us there,” said Kensdale.

“People don’t need to panic.

“We went toe to toe with the leaders Chesterfield and, on another day, Saturday’s game is a different result.

“We know if we perform like we can the results will come too.”

Blues are now 17th in the National League standings, two points above the relegation zone.

And the squad have held talks in the aftermath of Saturday’s defeat to ensure lessons are learnt.

“We’ve been on the wrong end of too many of those kind of games,” said Kensdale.

“We had a good chat after the game and again on Monday to iron out where we think we can improve.

“It’s a whole team effort front to back at both ends of the pitch and it was a frustrating one at the weekend.”

The Shrimpers will now be looking to bounce back against York City at Roots Hall this weekend in a match which will bring back painful memories.

The reverse fixture, back in September, saw Blues beaten 3-0 by the Minstermen in a game where both Harry Taylor and Gus Scott-Morriss were sent off.

And Kensdale is keen to get revenge this weekend.

“That game will live long in the memory for all of us,” said the 23-year-old.

“Everything that could go wrong did go wrong so it would be nice to be the right end of the result this time.”

York are currently level on points with Blues and sit immediately below Kevin Maher’s side in the table.

But Kensdale is still setting his sights high.

“It’s about the next game and seeing where it takes you but there is an end game,” he added.
