IN-FORM Billericay Town midfielder Alfie Cerulli will be heading into Saturday's “massive” local derby at Canvey Island on a real high.

The 22-year-old has helped Town continue their push for promotion with five goals in his eight games.

And his impressive performances have also seen him voted the Echo’s player of the month for January.

“It’s always nice to win awards and I want to thank everyone that voted,” said Cerulli.

“I’ve been happy with my contributions over the last couple of months.

“It’s always great to be in good form, scoring goals and most importantly doing what I can to help the team.

“The mentality and togetherness of the team is great and the reason we are doing well at the moment.

“But it’s important for us we keep are standards high as a group and keep getting results.”

Billericay head into this weekend’s clash sitting third in the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

And Cerulli insists it is another important clash for Gary McCann’s side against their 13th placed hosts.

“It’s a big game at the weekend but every game is massive at this stage of the season,” said Cerulli.

“The team and I will go in to the game with confidence as we always do and work as hard as we can to get three points.

“But Canvey are another side that has been together for a number of years and have some good players so we will have to be at the top of our game.”

Billericay performed well to win 3-0 at Lewes on Tuesday night.

And Cerulli was pleased to see Town bounce back from Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against Folkestone Invicta at New Lodge.

“It’s always a tough game going away to Lewes as they are a well drilled team that are very good at home,” said Cerulli.

“We performed well as a unit and dealt with terrible conditions really well.

“To bounce back with a 3-0 win after losing on Saturday shows the strong mentality of the group.

“It’s never good for a team to lose two on the bounce so it’s important to stay positive which we did well on Tuesday.”

But Cerulli is now keen to help Billericay bag more wins as they seek a successful end to the season.

“For me personally it’s important I stay consistent with my performances and contribute as much as I can,” said Cerulli.

“I will take it game by game and continue to work hard.

“In terms of the team if we keep the strong mindset we have and keep working hard I’m sure we will achieve something great this season.”
