CANVEY Island midfielder Charlie Edwards is expecting an entertaining local derby with Billericay Town tomorrow.

The two teams go head to head in the Isthmian Premier Division at the Movie Starr Stadium.

And Edwards cannot wait for kick-off.

“It should be a great game,” said Edwards.

“It could possibly be heated at times as it’s an Essex derby that I know means a lot to the fans.

We’re under no illusion as to how difficult it’s going to be, especially with the form they are in at the minute.

“But we managed to come away with the win in the reverse fixture, so we know what it takes to beat them.”

Canvey triumphed 1-0 at New Lodge back in October.

But Edwards is frustrated to be heading into Saturday’s rematch with third placed Town sitting 13th in the standings having reached the play-offs last time around.

“It’s naturally been a tad disappointing following our play-off finish last season,” said Edwards.

“Although, sometimes we forget that it’s only our second season in the division.

“A contributing factor has definitely been the amount of injuries we’ve had, to some key players too.

“I can recall a few games where we have only had one or two subs on the bench.

“In a strange way, getting through those games and picking up points, with the fans rallying behind us, have been highlights.”

And Edwards is now looking to end the season strongly.

“Coming off the back of a few defeats, we need to not look too far ahead and get back to being resolute and hard to beat,” said Edwards.

“We have some big players for us returning from injury, so hopefully we can turn a corner and look to finish the season strong.

“It would be great to repay the fans by putting together a run of good results too.”
