SOUTHEND United defender Adam Crowther cannot wait to be back in front of the Shrimpers’ away fans this weekend.

Blues look set to be roared on by more than 1,000 supporters when they make their first ever trip to Oxford City on Saturday.

And Crowther is keen to give them plenty to cheer about.

“The support is so good and I’ve never experienced anything close to it before,” said the centre-back.

“I normally get 1,000 at home let alone away and it’s just brilliant.

“We’re going to need them for the rest of the season and we might even outnumber them (Oxford) this weekend.

“I’m sure the atmosphere will be brilliant and I can’t wait. We’ll be looking to get the result for them too.”

The Shrimpers head into the game having been beaten in their last three outings.

But Crowther – who made his first Blues start in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to York City – does not feel there is too much to fix for Kevin Maher’s side.

“The performance wasn’t bad,” said Crowther.

“It’s just not going in the net for us at one end and it slipped in for them at the other.

“It’s just about tightening up those things. If we keep on performing the way we have been I’m sure results will change.

“But we believe in what we do. The little things need to change but it’s nothing drastic.

“It’s all about fine details in both boxes and if we get that right I’m sure we’ll get better results.”

Crowther had two chances to score against York last time out.

But the 23-year-old, who opted to pass rather than shoot with the second opportunity, is remaining upbeat.

“I’ve thought about it a few times since the game and whether to shoot or pass but the good thing is I got in the situation to have the chance,” said Crowther.

“I’m looking at it more that way than missing the chances.

"I scored a few goals for my last team and could’ve scored more.

"It’s an area I can improve on despite it being one of my strengths.

"But with our style of play and how much of the ball we have I’m sure I’ll get more chances here than I have anywhere else.”

Blues, who are 20th in the standings, will be looking to convert more of their chances against their bottom of the table hosts on Saturday.

However, Crowther feels City’s 7-1 defeat against Dagenham & Redbridge last time out will make them even tougher to beat.

“They’re going to come out all guns blazing,” said the defender.

“They’ve got something to prove and we’ve got to focus on ourselves.”

And Crowther will also not use playing on a 3G pitch as an excuse.

“There tend to be more 3G pitches lower down the leagues so I’m used to them and it shouldn’t affect us too much,” said Crowther.

“It’s a slight difference but it affects you more in the head if you think about it.

"It’s still a ball on a pitch and 11 against 11 so we just have to get on with it.”
