ECHOSPORT talks to Oxford City fan Mark Neal ahead of Saturday's match with Southend United.

Oxford City were beaten 7-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend. What kind of response are you expecting on Saturday?

"I'm expecting a response from the lads as in the second half they came out and were better but we still went on to lose 7-1.

"The players never gave up despite a mixed team playing as we had 11 injuries or knocks in total."

You're bottom of the table right now. How tough has this season been and do you think survival is still possible?

"Massively tough.

"We had a difficult start but got a little run going but it's been tough throughout.

"We have been dealt a huge blow with injuries throughout but with a smaller budget and part time compared to other clubs we have found it a really tough league compared to the National League South."

Why do you feel the season has gone the way it has?

"I don't like to make many excuses but we are the lowest budget in the league and punching above our weight but we got here by deserving our place.

"We have had injuries to several of our best players this season for long periods of time and that has impacted us hugely.

Who have been your best players this season and who is the dangerman?

"Best player has probably been Canice Carroll ( also now injured) and our talisman has been our striker Josh Parker with 11 goals.

What's the team news?

"I could probably tell you who's fit and that would be quicker!

"We have a number of long term injuries, various players coming back from long lay offs and a few with knocks.

"I'd be lying if I could tell you close to the starting line up but the last few years it's been the same names every week with very little change."

This will be Blues' first visit to you. What can you tell us about the ground and what's nearby?

"Marsh Lane or the Velocity Stadium as its now known these days is a ground situated a few miles from the city centre with the Northern Bypass A40 backing onto the ground.

"For many visitors this season it is probably an eye opener to the full time and ex league outfits as we have come up the leagues in recent past with very little money so it's testament to the club to be where it is but its a handy venue and is decent enough.

"Red Lion in Marston is the nearest pub, a 10 min walk away.

"Headington itself a mile away has many pubs and eating places which are all very close to each other; Royal Standard, Britannia Inn and White Horse."
