HARRISON Day remains convinced Concord Rangers can stay up this season.

The Beach Boys, who sit 20th in the Isthmian Premier Division standings, host Billericay Town tonight looking to close the gap on the teams above in the table.

And Day is still confident it can happen.

“I’m really confident that we will stay up this season,” said the striker.

“We are going from strength to strength and taking it one step at a time.

“We are becoming more compact, more together as a team and focusing on getting the basics right.

“We have some incredible talent in the changing room with a mix of experience and youth which will help guide us through the rest of the season.

“It’s just a matter of time until we start turning these good performances into three points as that’s what it’s all about.”

Concord are currently seven points from safety with six games in hand on Margate who are just above the relegation zone.

The Beach Boys were beaten 2-1 by Dulwich Hamlet at the Aspect Arena on Saturday.

And Day was disappointed to end the afternoon empty handed.

“Saturdays game against Dulwich was disappointing,” said Day.

“We definitely backed ourselves to get some more points on the board but we started slowly which I feel like let us down.

“We started to grow into the game but it took us to concede two before we really started to go for it.

“We got a goal back with around 15 minutes left and from then on we were on top for the last moments of the game.

“We kept pushing but unfortunately nothing came of it and we finished the game frustrated in our performance.”

Concord will be desperate to avoid a repeat this evening.

And Day is ready for what he expects to be a physical encounter.

“We are all definitely eager to bounce back against Billericay and we feel we have learned a lot over the past couple games,” said Day.

“We can be confident with how we play and put in a good performance.

“Obviously we were disappointed to drop points but we’re ready to put it right.

“I’m expecting a quick, exciting physical game against Billericay and I feel it’s going to be a close one.

“We know how our pitch is at the moment and know what to expect from each other.

“But I have no doubt in my mind that we will get something out of this game if we all stick together and do the basics right.

“It’s an Essex derby game we are looking to win.”

In Isthmian North tonight, eighth placed Basildon United host third placed Bury Town while Bowers & Pitsea, who are fifth, head to fourth placed Brentwood Town.
