MILLWALL have reappointed record goalscorer Neil Harris as their new head coach.

The 46-year-old former Southend United striker, who previously managed the Lions between 2015 and 2019, has left his role as Cambridge United boss and signed a contract until June 2025.

He replaces Joe Edwards, who was sacked earlier on Wednesday after a run of seven defeats in eight matches left Millwall one point above the Championship relegation zone.

Harris will be assisted by former New Den team-mate Dave Livermore, as well as ex Shrimpers defender Adam Barrett.

Millwall chairman James Berylson told the club website: “I’d like to start by thanking Neil for taking on this challenge, which is one I know he is very excited and enthusiastic about.

“Neil knows this club as well as anybody and understands exactly what it takes to be successful here.

“We are in a difficult moment but he and Dave have jumped at this opportunity and that says a lot about their affection for Millwall and their fierce drive and determination to help improve performances and results.

“I look forward to working closely with Neil and Dave and continuing to do so with Adam, and promise them all our total support for the weeks and months ahead.”

In his previous spell in charge permanently, Harris steered Millwall to consecutive League One play-off finals – winning the second against Bradford City.

During his playing career Harris scored a club-record 138 goals in all competitions over 10 seasons.

The first match of his second stint in charge will be Saturday’s trip to Southampton.
