SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher hailed the impact made by substitutes Jack Wood and Marcus Dackers in Saturday’s win against Aldershot.

The duo both scored late on after coming off the bench in the 4-1 victory at Roots Hall.

And Maher was happy with to see the duo both work their way onto the score-sheet.

“We haven’t really had subs all season so the opportunities to bring on fresh bodies is great,” said Maher.

“Woody showed great composure to come off the line and score.

“We changed it with the extra man and having the width on the right as well as the left because we thought it was important to stretch them and it paid off.”

Wood’s well-taken strike put the Shrimpers 3-1 ahead before Dackers completed the scoring with his first goal since coming back to the club on loan from Salford City.

And Maher felt Dackers was a man on a mission.

“I’m delighted for Marcus,” said Maher.

“He hit it angry and he played angry which is good.

“I want him to do that because he’s a threat.
