SOUTHEND United will go 10th in the table with a win against Wealdstone tonight.
The Shrimpers head into the clash at Roots Hall unbeaten in their last five games.
But Blues boss Maher is taking nothing for granted against the Stones, despite them sitting down in 18th.
“We’re at home but it’s a real tough one,” said Maher.
“All the results throughout the league at the weekend showed teams at the bottom are fighting, which happens at this stage of the season.
“Chesterfield got turned over which surprises everyone but in this league that’s going to happen.
“You’ve got to be ready and you’ve seen all season anyone can beat anyone on their day.”
Wealdstone won 3-2 at York City on Saturday and Maher knows boss David Noble – who was appointed in late January - will be hungry for more points.
“Dave has come in and he’s proper football person,” said Maher.
“He will be brilliant for them and they got their first win at the weekend so I’m sure they will be buoyed by that.
“It’s always tough against them and it’s always been close when we’ve played them.
“All credit to them as a club in terms of how they want to play and how they go about things.
“They’ve got top players too.”
The Shrimpers also showed their strengths in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Oldham Athletic.
And Maher remains pleased with the point.
“It was pleasing because it’s along journey and they’re a very good side,” said Maher.
“To make sure we came back with something was really important because it was a tough battle in tough conditions at time.”
