SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher expects an entertaining tussle with Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow.

The two teams meet at Roots Hall in a game being shown live on TNT Sport.

And Maher believes it will be an interesting match to watch.

“It will be a good game,” said Maher.

“They’ll be ready and so will we.

“We had a good result there earlier in the season, winning 2-0, but Strevs (Ben Strevens) has really got them going now and he’s doing a brilliant job there.

“He’s making them more difficult to beat and he’s got more players he wants.

“He’s had more time to bed in what he wants too and that does make a difference.”

Dagenham are now 13th in the table, two places and one point below Blues.

But Maher will not be placing extra significance on the contest.

“We treat it as another game with three points at stake and I’m sure Dagenham will feel the same way,” said Maher.

“There will be a good atmosphere and we’re looking forward to it.

“We’re six unbeaten and we want to keep that going.”

But Maher is keen for Blues to start matches in a far stronger fashion.

The Shrimpers have gone behind in their last four outings.

And Maher wants to avoid a repeat this weekend.

“It’s incredible how we’ve responded after conceding early goals or going behind but it’s not something we want to make a habit,” said Maher.

“Credit goes to the players for not letting things drop when people can be frustrated.

“We kept going the other night and, although it was disappointing not to win, it was good to score late on to avoid losing.

“We’ll take that into Saturday now but it’s important we remain level headed like we always do.”
