SOUTHEND United striker Danny Waldron ticked off one target in Saturday’s draw with Dagenham & Redbridge but is already focusing on another.

Waldron’s goal in the 1-1 stalemate was his first at Roots Hall since signing in January.

But his next effort will see him better the 18 goals he scored last season with Rushall Olympic.

“My first goal at Roots Hall was something I had been waiting for,” said Waldron.

“I’m buzzing but it’s just a shame we couldn’t get all three points.

“Last season I got 18 goals so I wanted to beat that this season.

“That’s my target and then I’ll see how many I end up with.”

Waldron’s latest effort came when he converted an inviting right wing cross from Harry Cardwell.

And the striker was delighted to see the ball hit the back of the net.

“Cards has put a great ball in and I've just got to attack it,” said Waldron.

“Luckily I've got my foot on the end of it and it's gone in.

“It's just a striker's goal really.”

Waldron’s goal cancelled out Ryan Hill’s opener for Dagenham and it was very much the visitors on top in the first 45 minutes.

“We didn't start the game well enough at all,” said Waldron.

“It’s hard to say why it’s happening.

“The second half we've come out much better and got the goal straight away.

“The game completely turns and it was much better in the second half.

“The goal changed everything and the atmosphere changed too.

“We just couldn't get the second goal to win it but we've got to start winner we know that.”

However, the Shrimpers are now unbeaten in seven games and Waldron loved playing in front of more than 8,000 fans.

“It's what you want to play football for and I've enjoyed it,” said Waldron.

“We'll take the point at the end of it but I think we should be coming out of it with three points.”
