DORKING Wanderers boss Marc White says Kevin Maher has done “the management job of the century” at Southend United.

White brings his Dorking side to Roots Hall for a National League clash at Roots Hall tonight.

And he remains in awe of what Maher has done with Blues.

“It’s the management job of the century really,” White told the club's Twitter account.

“I’m not just saying it but I know for a fact that nobody would do what Kev’s done at that club.

“Last season was a phenomenal performance and players weren’t getting paid.

“I physically don’t have the words to describe what he’s done for the football club.

“When they were out with the washing and the owner was parking the bus and not paying people making it a horrible place, Kev held the club together single handedly.”

But White has also been impressed by his own dealings with Maher.

“He’s also first to message me when we’ve had tough times,” said White.

“He’ll message me out of nowhere and he’s a really good guy.

“I’ve got an awful lot of respect for him and I know the supporters should be really, really behind him.

“They’ve got their club back and it’s a brilliant story.

“It’s a huge community club and the lads taking over managed to get Ron Martin out which at one point didn’t seem like it would happen.

However, despite those difficulties, Maher has kept Blues competitive on the pitch.

“He’s had a 10 point deduction, he couldn’t sign anyone and had a squad which went game to game with 12 or 13 players,” said White.

“He kept them going and they’d be in the play-offs without the points deduction.

“It’s easy to talk people up but you have to credit what he’s done.

“That said I’d love to go and beat them!”
