ECHOSPORT talks to Hartlepool United fan Adam Davison from the HUFC Chat podcast ahead of today's match with Southend United.

Hartlepool are currently 12th in the table. What have you made of the season so far?

"It’s been very underwhelming to say the least.

"It was one that started so very well, winning five of our first seven games including an unforgettable first six minutes away at Chesterfield then sadly injuries to key players came at the wrong time and it essentially derailed us for a long period of time.

How much have things changed since Kevin Phillips was appointed?

"After the Kevin Phillips appointment we saw an immediate bounce, we all of a sudden look rejuvenated.

"We won five of his first seven games in charge, including a hugely impressive win away at Bromley.

"Although the last two games have been defeats and performances have been way below par, there is confidence in his ability and fingers crossed with a good summer in terms of recruitment I’m genuinely excited for what next season has to offer for Hartlepool United."

What are the hopes for the rest of the season?

"I mentioned in the previous question about the last two games more so the results and I think based on that the play-offs now look like a very tall order and seemingly now out the question.

"For me personally it’s all about attaining the highest possible league finish."

Who have been the stand out performers for you this season?

"Can’t think of anyone other than striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe.

"He's got 20 plus goals in all competitions this season.

"I mean I don’t like to think negatively but I dread to think where we could be without his contributions this season.

"He’s been a phenomenal signing and will no doubt be awarded for it come the end of the season.
