THE Southend United Ex Players Association have held their first ever club meeting for its members.
The afternoon at Roots Hall saw ex Shrimpers travelling from as far as Yorkshire to be involved.
And Andrew Leeder, who organises SUEPA on behalf of the Shrimpers Trust, was delighted to see the event go so well.

“It was a wonderful afternoon with former players, one former coach, and a former club doc coming along, plus Justin Rees,” said Leeder.
“Each player had once graced the Roots Hall turf with at least one other in the room in days gone by, and we spanned the decades from the early 1960’s through to the 1990’s with those there today - and then Johnny White turned up too “It was great to have Justin join us too.
“It’s such a refreshing change to have a club chairman who wants to get involved.
“The future is bright.”
After receiving plenty of positive feedback the second former players club will be held at Roots Hall on Wednesday May 8, starting at 2pm.
And Leeder is certain it will help to rekindle more memories.
“Lots of old memories were exchanged, friendships re-kindled after decades apart, new friends made, and a strong desire to do it all again so we are,” said Leeder.
“Our aim is to hold these meetings at least six times a year, and in setting this up we had many of our SUEPA members saying they could not be there today but would love to come along another time.
“It was lovely of the club to let us have use of the newly refurbished d2 lounge and a special thanks also to the Blue Boar for sponsoring the light refreshments.
“We’re already looking forward to the next one and if you are a former Southend United player, of any era any level, and would like to attend then please get in touch.”
