SOUTHEND United boss Kevin Maher was pleased with the impact made by the recalled James Morton and Danny Waldron against Boreham Wood.
Morton headed home his first goal for the Shrimpers during the 4-2 victory while Waldron claimed two assists in a hardworking display.
And Maher felt the duo showed exactly what is needed after being handed an opportunity to impress.
“Danny makes a difference when he plays and that's what we want from those coming in,” said Maher.
“He’s got two assists in the first half, he's running channels and chasing balls which we want our forwards to do.
“I’m really pleased for him and Morts as well.”
Morton headed home a fine right wing cross from Waldron to put the Shrimpers 2-0 ahead.
And Maher was thrilled to see Morton work his way onto the score-sheet.
“I'm delighted for him,” said the Blues boss.
“I spoke to him before the game because he was trying so hard because he wants to do so well.
“But he's a great footballer and you see the quality he's got.
“He's got a goal in him too so I'm pleased with that.”
