WESTCLIFF Rugby Club's under-12s team booked their place at the Premiership Final at Twickenham in June, after victory at the Saracens Defender Premiership Rugby Cup.
Saracens sealed a 46-24 win against Gloucester in round 15 of the Gallagher Premiership, but it was also a very special day for Westcliff's youngsters at StoneX.
Westcliff dominated in the Defender Premiership Rugby Cup hosted by Sarries, booking their place at Twickenham in June winning all their games and scoring a total of 14 tries with none conceded.
Launched during the 2008/09 season, the long-standing Defender Premiership Rugby Cup, previously Land Rover Premiership Cup, is the first national grassroots tournament officiated by Premiership Rugby and run in conjunction with all 12 clubs.
The events are designed to provide aspiring young players with the chance to play competitive fixtures in a format to aid their development, all within the spirit of rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship.
In total, more than 7,000 children will participate over the course of the campaign as they go in search of a spot in the Parade of Champions during half-time of the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham on 8 June.
After captaining his side in the under-12s final against Milton Keynes, Westcliff’s Toby Sykes says he’s looking forward to the Twickenham prize.
“We won a tour and tickets for the final," said Toby.
"I’m so excited to go out on the pitch at Twickenham, and more excited to be going with the team.
"They want their names in the paper to be famous!
"They are Oscar Forrest, Flynn White, Xavier Keenan, Stanley Whiting-King, Ethan Christensen, Vinnie Gray, Bevan Dove, Edward Ritchie, Charlie Carroll, Dominic Rumbles, Ethan Davison, Harrison Dawe, Oscar Hills, Will Surridge, Billy Danby, Harry Wilson, Ted Mayo, Albie Simpson, and Riley Baker.
“We play and train every weekend and I love tournaments like this. I loved watching Saracens smash Gloucester after we won.”.
“I’ve played at Westcliff since I was two years old and my older brother is in the Westcliff first team so we play rugby at home all the time.”
