SOUTHEND United legend Chris Powell has been made an MBE in the King’s birthday honours list.
Powell played 290 times for the Shrimpers at the start of a lengthy career which saw him make more than 700 appearances.
The 54-year-old also won five caps for England before moving into management.
Powell spent time in charge of Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town before returning to Roots Hall as manager between January 2018 and March 2019.
After leaving the Shrimpers, Powell was part of Gareth Southgate’s England coaching team at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup and is currently assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday.
But Powell has been left overwhelmed by the MBE.
“I always thought that representing my country and the FA would be the pinnacle of my career, as both a player and a coach, but this honour is beyond my expectations,” Powell said.
