SOUTHEND United defender Harry Taylor was taken to hospital after suffering a nasty looking cut during Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Great Wakering Rovers.

Taylor suffered the facial injury when making a well-timed sliding challenge just before the break at Burroughs Park.

And Blues boss Kevin Maher confirmed Taylor had immediately left the stadium for more treatment.

“It was a pretty deep cut,” said Maher.

“He’s gone to hospital to get stitches and we’ll see how he is.”

Taylor was replaced by Adam Crowther at the back in a match Blues won 5-0.
