JASON Demetriou’s future with Southend United has yet to be sorted.

The 36-year-old is currently out of contract at Roots Hall.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher does not expect Demetriou’s future to be resolved until the consortium complete their takeover of the club.

“He’s someone we want around the place and he needs his situation sorted out,” said Maher.

“He’s had an injection on his knee but it’s another one we need to sit down with and get sorted.

“The whole takeover will allow that to happen.”

Demetriou, who combined playing with coaching last season, has made 260 appearances for the Shrimpers since signing in 2016.
