ADAM Crowther is keen to see Southend United pick up "good habits" during pre-season.

Blues bagged a 5-0 win at Great Wakering Rovers in their first warm up fixture of the summer on Saturday.

And Crowther wants Blues to keep moving in the right direction as they continue to prepare for the forthcoming National League campaign.

"Results aren't really that important in a first pre-season game but it was nice to get some goals," said Crowther.

"It was a good run out and it was what we needed after a couple of weeks work.

"We're getting used to being back on the pitch again and it was a good work-out.

"We want to get into good habits by being ruthless in front of goal and picking up clean sheets too."

The Shrimpers did both at Burroughs Park at the weekend.

And Crowther was pleased to play his part after missing the final four games of last season with a calf problem.

"I missed out towards the end of last season with a calf injury so I think it's been nearly four a bit months since I played," said Crowther.

"It was important to get playing and it's another busy week ahead now with a couple of games. "

But Crowther has been enjoying the workload.

"It's been tough but a good sort of tough we all need," said Crowther.

"You're not burnt out but you know you've worked hard.

"I've been full-time before but it's really been ramped up and you notice the difference.

"When you come when I did you have to get up to speed straight away whereas this time you're getting up to speed with everyone else."

And Crowther is looking forward to what is yet to come.

"It's a fresh season with new faces and maybe new things to learn," said Crowther.

"It's important to get used to the levels you need to play for Southend."
