MEMBERS of the consortium have expressed their delight and pride after completing their takeover of Southend United.

The group of businessmen, which is headed up by Justin Rees, have been in talks to buy Blues for the past 12 months.

And Rees is delighted to finally have got the deal done.

“Throughout the last year, I've experienced first hand just how much the club means to the city and how important it was that we got this takeover completed,” said Rees.

“I’m delighted this chapter of uncertainty is now behind us and am very excited for the road ahead.”

Consortium member Jason Brown echoed those sentiments and is proud to be involved with the club he grew up supporting from the stands.

“It’s an overwhelming sense of pride and excitement that we’ve been able to complete the purchase of a club that I have supported for over 40 years,” said Brown.

“It allows me to give something back to a city that has given me so much”

The club’s chief executive Tom Lawrence played a leading role in helping to keep the Shrimpers alive prior to the consortium funding the club since just Christmas.

Lawrence was added to the consortium in January and cannot wait for the forthcoming campaign to get underway.

“What a journey it's been to get to this point,” said Lawrence.

“Thanks to all the staff and fans for their loyalty and support.

“Bring on the 24/25 season.”
