LUIS Shamshoum is targeting a promotion push with Hullbridge Sports this season.

The shot-stopper joined Sports from fellow Essex Senior League side Great Wakering Rovers this summer.

And he believes Steve Roberts’ new look team have what it takes to be up towards the top of the table.

“This season our main focus has to be to get this club back into Step 4 with the facilities and how well the club is run,” said Shamshoum.

“I think it deserves to be in the league above so I think our target this season is play-offs minimum.”

But it is not just the league which Shamshoum is keen to shine in.

“A cup run in the Vase or the FA Cup would also be amazing,” said the 21-year-old.

“ Last season I had my best ever memories in football and that was in the FA Vase getting to the final with Wakering.

“We want to help make the club more money in the cup runs so I think that is important.”

And Shamshoum is determined to play his part in that happening.

“Personally for me I want to gain more appearances, more clean sheets and really kick on to really make a name for myself as a goalkeeper in this league,” said Shamshoum.

“I think last season I gave myself a really good platform as personally I had a lot of praise and success so now this season coming I really want to build on that and really kick on.”

Shamshoum will be surrounded by a number of ex Wakering team-mates in Hullbridge’s squad this season.

And he is looking forward to working under boss Steve Roberts who himself stepped down as Rovers boss back in October.

“The main attraction for the move to Hullbridge was the management team for me,” said Shamshoum.

“I’ve known Steve since I was 16 and have played under him twice before so I knew it was a no brainer when they showed interest.

“After I slowly picked out things about Hullbridge as a club itself I thought it was definitely the club for me too.

“I think the facilities they have are fantastic.

“It’s on my doorstep, I love the ambition the club has for next season and I think it’s a very well run club so in the end I thought it was the correct decision.

And Shamshoum cannot wait to get the season started at home to Stansted this weekend.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for the season to start on Saturday, especially as it’s a home game, said Shamshoum.

“I’m hoping we can get some decent numbers through the door and really create an atmosphere for the first game of the season.

“We don’t know too much about Stansted as they were in a different league last year but I’m sure it will be a tough game.

“I know with the group we have I think we can be a strong force and I’m also really excited to make my debut for Hullbridge.

“I am hoping it’s the start of a successful season for us.”
