WHITE Ensign new boy Jon Evans wants his fine pre-season form to be the sign of things to come.

Evans has scored five goals in five warm up matches since joining Ensign from Hullbridge Sports earlier this summer.

And the attacking midfielder is determined to bounce back from what he perceived to be a disappointing campaign last time around.

“I’m really looking forward to the season,” said Evans.

“Not having a great season last season has made me even more up for the challenge of the play-offs this year.

“It’s a tough league this year once again but I’m excited to get going and I want to help the team as much as I can with goals and assists.”

Ensign kick off their campaign against Halstead Town at Burroughs Park on Saturday.

And Evans is eager to make a good start as he strives to secure a top five finish for Aaron Bloxham’s side.

“The play-offs has been the goal from the start, individually and as a team too,” said Evans.

“A big performance Saturday to start the season will help massively and set an example.

“Then we can go into the FA Cup the weekend after with a win too.”

Ensign finished 16th in the standings last season.

But Evans has been encouraged by what he has seen in the build up to the new campaign.

“As a team we have started to gel together,” said Evans.

“We’ve prepared ourselves for the season where games come thick and fast and we’re ready.

“On a personal note, having scored five in five I am going into the season with a lot of confidence and I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Halstead, who finished 10th last season, will have other ideas this weekend.

But Evans cannot wait to get started after opting to join Ensign this summer.

“Blox (Aaron Bloxham) made this happen for me,” said Evans.

“He was speaking about the club’s goal this season, which looked very promising.

“It’s a young side with a lot of talent, with everyone sharing that same goal.”

Elsewhere in the Essex Senior League on Saturday, Benfleet host Woodford Town, Hullbridge Sports host Stansted and Great Wakering Rovers go to West Essex.
